Noontime....cutting the lawn in the rain.....I stumble on a creative Robin's nest....tucked away on the top of my fence post between the fence and the siding. Filled up the bird feeders anticipating the new arrivals......

This was another one of those weeks where I thought I had everyone stumped.....
then everyone came out of the woodwork with the correct answer.....

--His wife Claudette.....(he wrote "Claudette" an early Everly Bros. hit) died in a motorcycle accident while they were both out for a ride......when she didn't come over the hill.....he went back to see that she was broadsided by a truck.
--2 out of his 3 sons were killed in house fire when he was out of town on tour.....Johnny Cash (who was his next door neighbor) ran out and tried to put out the fire with a garden hose but to no avail.....Johnny bought the land where the house stood and planted an orchard in memorial.
--He died at age 52.
--Today's his Birthday....
CHA...CHA...CHA...would have been 74 today.
--Elvis called him the greatest singer ever.....and I agree.
--He was huge overseas in England....when touring with the Beatles in the early '60's....he opened the show and the Beatles sat backstage through 14 encores waiting for their turn to go on...only to go on to chants of "We want Roy....We want Roy....."

Dan and I attended the "TOP 10% of Class Banquet" for the LTHS 2010 Seniors last night....
held at DiNolfo's in Homer Glen.
I think he is leaning towards becoming a Fighting Leatherneck
at Western Illinois this fall......story still developing.

"Illinois State Scholar" was also not next to my name in the yearbook.....
Dan has done himself and us proud!

But...
he needs to remember...
He may be smarter....
but as the photo shows....
I still have a couple of inches and at least a couple of pounds on him.

Chelveston the "goose" kept us entertained for another day....
We finished our job list and headed back to 30* weather and snow.

Friday Firsts......

In my 47 years.....none of these were accomplished until yesterday....

• I now own a chainsaw....
• I now own a wheel barrow with 2 wheels....
• I now own a King Size bed....
• I built a fire pit...
• I raked leaves for 10 hours....
• I burned leaves for 9 hours....
• I took a cold shower....(Hot water heater set way too low....and I couldn't wait....that burning leaf smell just had to go!)
• I got sunburn in March....
• I enjoyed a text free dinner with Erin...(her phone broke)...I know that we had a text free dinner once when she was 5....but that doesn't count.
• I have a pet goose....Chelveston. He came up out of the water while I was raking leaves and stayed by my side for the next 10 hours....following me into the garage...up the stairs to the deck...and almost into the fire pit. It is either my dynamic personality....or the slices of bread Erin was feeding him.
• I met my neighbor Larry....who is from here and told me that my pet duck was really a goose.
