CHA...CHA...CHA...Part Duex!!

Good afternoon.....
sorry I'm a little late but,
50th Birthday Parties for Princesses....
don't come around too often.
Plus....seeing Tim Conway twice in less than
6 months is a shock to anyone's system!

Since the "Lite Beer in your Shorts" pic from yesterday's Blog,
was such a hit last night....
(Everybody had it up on their I-Phone....
you can run but you can't hide Jimmy!)
I decided to publish the "real" version.

All these years....
I never noticed the "Package".....
probably due to the bronzed, bandanna wearing Tarzan
named Jay that was next to the Princess.

I know that this looks like the start of a bad "PlayGirl" photo shoot....
but I can assure all that it was a great week with friends
in Wisconsin many moons ago!!

I double-dog-dare Jim and
Jay to make this their new
Facebook Profile Pic.

Here's to another 50!

We Have a Wiener and a CHA...CHA...CHA!!

Ed & Buddy.....

Shhhhhhhhhhh......
The first one in this week with the correct answer was Mz. Maggie Pollard,
but because she is in Ireland this week.....
and Ireland hasn't invented the internet yet....she'll never know.
Unless you tell her and
I KNOW YOU WON'T!!

This week's GRAND PRIZE winner is none other than the Birthday Boy himself....
Mr. James Farrell.

He knew that the specs were located in Clear Lake, IA.
Which is the spot where Buddy Holly, Richie Valens,
and the Big Bopper's plane went down on this date in 1959.
Buddy was 22....
Richie was 17....
Big Bopper was 28.
Roger Peterson (local pilot) was 21.

I was here a few years ago.....
no map or road signs to the crash site...
I had to find it with some hints on the web.

I walked about a half mile
through some tall late August corn
to get to a small makeshift memorial.

Pretty spooky in that "Deliverance"
kind of way....
I don't think that I have ever been to a place that was soooo quiet...EVER.
No cars...planes....tractors....dogs barking...nothing.
I had this feeling that something was going to jump out of the corn....
so I ran like a girl back to my car!!

--A 14-year old Don (American Pie) McLean found out about Buddy's death while delivering papers (shiver/deliver)

--I ONLY put 3 Buddy Holly song titles in the hints on Tuesday.....
(OH BOY!--THINK IT OVER--IT'S SO EASY)

HAPPY 50 Mr. Farrell.....
CHA CHA CHA!!!

Born on the Day the Music (and fashion) Died.....
nice work!
Is that an extra can of Lite in your pants.....
or are you just happy to see me!!

We Have a Wiener!!!

Damn if Mz. Molly Flynn didn't come in and steal my thunder this week.
Only minutes in front of a late field....
she is the Grand Prize winner this week with the one and only....
Carl Dean "Alfalfa" Switzer.

--Born in the small town of Paris, Illinois near the Indiana border and was discovered by Hal Roach in the cafeteria of the Hal Roach studios while on a sightseeing trip with his brother and family.

--Later in life he was a professional dog breeder and trainer....training dogs from Hollywood Stars such as Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart.

--Being a Child Star is a bitch.....
He died at 31 after trying to collect on a $50 loan.....while intoxicated.
53 years ago tomorrow.

--His brother Harold....after spending 5 years as a background player in "Our Gang", operated a successful Speed Queen franchise servicing washers and dryers. At age 42.....he shot and killed a customer over a dispute.....then drove to the desert and killed himself!

Other useless facts, that were too "Googleable"....
--He died on the same day as Cecil B. DeMille.....who overshadowed the news that day.
--Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were Alafalfa's son's Godparents!
--Had small roles in BIG movies like,
"It's a Wonderful Life"/"White Christmas"
"The Ten Commandments" and "The Defiant Ones"

We Have a Wiener!!!

We have our first Wiener of the New Year!!

Mary Pollard in front of her daughter Maggie
this week by a mere minute with the correct answer...
Emmitt Perry, Jr...aka Tyler "Madea" Perry.

I must have been living under a rock.....
but I had no clue to who he/she was until New Years Eve when we watched
"Madea's Big Happy Family" and although it is not Oscar quality....
I can guarantee you a couple of laughing fits
where you won't be able to suck in enough air to live another day.

-"Hellur!?" Tyler earned 130 million dollars last year topping
Forbes' list of highest paid men entertainers!
-Dad was constantly beating him as a kid....
which led him to change his name from Emmitt to Tyler
when he was 16 years old....to further distance himself from his Dad.
-Molested by a family member as a child...
and found out that his Dad had molested one of his friends.
-Never graduated from High School....but did obtain his GED.
-After watching an Oprah episode about the therapeutic benefits that creative writing had....he started writing and decided that this would be his future.
-Had a small role in a Star Trek film after being invited by director J.J. Abrams.

Think I will delve deeper into the Madea catalog this weekend.

Austin City Limits has been around since I was in 8th grade.....

Randy Newman was on last night......watch for a repeat on PBS.

DAM!

The White Salmon River in Washington state is flowing again as the nearly 100-year-old Condit Dam was disabled with explosives last week.
The reservoir draining took about 2 hours.
Further demolition is scheduled in 2012.
The event is a significant milestone for river
restoration and dam removal nationwide.

Bat hunt!

Louisville Slugger made 45 Commemorative St. Louis Cardinals
2011 World Series Champs bats the night the Cardinals won it all.....

flew them down to St. Louis....
hid them around the city......
and the scavenger hunt was on.

Probably the best publicity that $45 in wood could buy!

Only 6 months to the Derby.......who's with me!?!
The Louisville Slugger Factory/Museum tour.....
is a great cure for a hangover!

Looking for a '51 DeSoto and only have 11 Grand??

So I have driven by Country Classic Cars at least 51 times.....
but had a chance to stop last week in beautiful Staunton, IL.

Acres and acres of old classic cars.....and all for sale.
From old Jeeps to Rolls Royces to Corvairs and Vettes.....
I even saw a '75 Vega Station Wagon along with a '84 Renault Alliance convertible.

Unfortunately his web site is as old as his Desoto.....

I would recommend a stop in case you are ever heading south on I-55.....
Most of the cars are in good shape....they run and are reasonably priced.

Hard to walk away from a '65 Ford Fairlane 2dr V-8 for under 5 grand!
Now I am starting to sound like "Linn Burton for certain"...
Google it kids.

Whatever happened to "Rusty Jones"??

Fall back.....

The "Party Marty" Deck is complete....

Although checking it out at 7am before settling up with the contractor
on Thursday morning was a problem.

Still dark outside.....duh!

Light arrived 23 minutes later.....
but still a little too early for an inaugural Bud.

Set your clocks back tonight and enjoy your
extra hour of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
