Other than being famous for his Tramp character.....Chaplin was an accomplished songwriter who penned the music to "Smile" which has been covered by many artists including the list given on Tuesday.

  • Chaplin co-founded United Artists in 1919.
  • First actor to appear on the cover of TIME Magazine.
  • Sir Charles Chaplin was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1975.
  • Was married 4 times...Met 2nd wife when she was 12.....married at 16.
  • At his peak....he entered a Chaplin-look-a-like contest and lost.
  • Bob Hope won first prize at a similar contest in Cleveland, OH.
  • Rest in peace?? 1 year after his death...Chaplin's coffin was stolen and held for ransom...the culprits were caught and he was re-buried at an undisclosed location. Hopefully deeper.


  • Walt was born in 1901 and grew up at 1249 N Tripp in a house that his Dad built.
  • Disney was an Oscar nominee 59 times and won 22 of those times....on top of 3 special and 1 honorary Oscar.
  • More nominations than any other individual in Oscar History.
  • Contrary to popular belief....Walt's body is not frozen in a cryonics chamber full of liquid nitrogen somewhere awaiting a comeback with "Snow White 2".
  • Never graduated from H.S....dropped out of McKinley HS/Chicago....does have honorary degrees from Yale....Harvard....UCLA.
  • When searching for land for his theme parks.....he went by the name of M.T. Lott (empty lot)...as to avoid price surges.
  • Upon making it big...Walt and brother Roy bought his parents a new home in Los Angeles....unfortunately the house had a faulty HVAC system ....their mother died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
