We have a Weiner!!

Home favorite Maribeth McNally was the first to email
(and call in....awkward and not really necessary)
this week's correct answer.......
"Mr. Cub" Ernie (Ernest) Banks!!

--He had to work in the off-season as a car salesman.....that pic from Tuesday was of him sitting in a car in the showroom reading a press release stating that he was named the National League MVP....for the second year in a row in 1959. FIRST player to accomplish that feat.

--Owned and operated the Ernie Banks Ford dealership in the 60's/70's on South Stoney Island.

--FIRST.....black player on the Chicago Cubs....
--FIRST year of eligibility .....elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
--FIRST ....black MLB manager....technically yes....officially no.
Replaced the Cubs Manager Whitey Lockman
(after Whitey was kicked out of the game)....
years before Frank Robinson was officially named.
--FIRST Cubs player to have his number retired.
--FIRST with the most games played as a player.....
without a post-season appearance....HA!!

--Met him in a downtown parking garage, 15 years ago, as we were both waiting for our cars.....he couldn't have been nicer.....even to a Sox Fan.

--O.J.'s second cousin....

--Only 65 more days until the Cubbies first game.....
and the 47th consecutive year in which I will not see a home game.

Lots of correct guessers along with lots of incorrect spellers.....
and with no other option.... I must award MRS. MOLLY FLYNN with
this week's GRAND PRIZE for correctly naming and SPELLING.....
Daryl Dragon....Toni Tennille.....Kenny Rogers.....and Bob Keeshan......
I would even have taken the answer of a "Captain Sandwich"
only with the purpose of toppling the reigning champ ....Mrs. Flynn.

--Daryl and Toni are still married and make up the duo of the "Captain and Tennille"
--Kenny Rogers once owned a chain of Chicken Restaurants...
--Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan is a member of the Clown Hall of Fame...
--Kenny has 5 ex-wives....."you gotta know when to hold 'em....know when to fold 'em"
--Toni Tennille sang backup on The Wall by Pink Floyd......
--Captain Kangaroo's pic is buried at the top of Mt. Everest....his grandson was one of the youngest persons at that time to ever scale the Seven Summits by climbing Mt. Everest.....
a pic of the Captain and his grandson is buried there.

The Captain looks a little scarrrrry....mmmmmm?

Check out some scarrrry looking "Kenny's"....

You know you're in Heaven when....

We lost a dear friend/babysitter and adopted grandmother this past week.

Joan Lovell started babysitting for us in 1994 when I first started The Buck Stop. After interviewing several, terrible candidates to watch Erin and Danny while both Mar and I worked...
Joan was a Godsend.

Always there when we needed her....
never missed a day....never late and always great with the kids...
The Buck Stop would have never happened without the peace of mind that Joan gave us.

We all packed her up last August as she left Lockport to move out to PA to live closer to her son Rocky.....she had done this once before a few years back....and moved back to Lockport after a trial run......homesick I guess...
I teased her telling her that she couldn't come back because my back couldn't handle moving her HUGE grandfather clock again!!

Spoke to her on her B-Day in December and on Christmas Day.....
she caught a virus after Christmas and it was just too much for her.
She was a strong lady who we hoped would beat it....but God had other plans.

Hard to believe that a total stranger 15 years ago ("Mrs Lovell")
could have made such a huge impact on our family and especially the kids.

She will be greatly missed by all of us and her own family,
who are all great people!

Wanted to cure cancer after his Grandmother died of it...
Pictured above in one of his expensive shirts...

There's always next week
for the rest of you correct, but late, non-Leslie guessers!!

Enjoy the "tuneage".

Happy New Years!! CHA-CHA-CHA!! ...and We Have a Weiner!!

This will be the 44th time that John gets to

but unfortunately for Sharon and the kids....
nothing else but the sash!!

TIM MCNALLY had the first email in to correctly name both
Francis Albert "Frank" Sinatra (Guy on left..)

Guy Lombardo made the first song you hear every New Year...
"Auld Lang Syne" very popular starting in the 1930's.
It was originally a Scottish poem from the early 1700's...

and won the Gold Cup back in 1946.

Happy New Years!!
