We Have a Wiener!!!

Yesssssssssssssss.....
Molly Flynn's consecutive win streak is over.....
and TT Rookie.....Mr. Jim Swale was all over this week's winning pic....
Thomas Charles Lasorda!!

I'm told that Mr. Swale is such a baseball connoisseur......
that he knew the answer before the pic fully downloaded on
those slow EDS Tandy computers.....and didn't even use the hints to assist.

Unfortunately......
it is in the TT bylaws that no Cub Fan can EVER win a TT contest.....
even if they are the first one in with the correct answer.

.....but since you are my brother's co-worker.....
I took it back to the TT judges and they have granted you this week's GRAND PRIZE....and TT bragging rights for the next 7 days.
Your Grand Prize will be on it's way to you shortly.
But don't expect to win another one.......for at least another 102 years!!

Mr Lasorda.....
Member of both the MLB and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fames.
Rest of the facts/figures are correct.

Not known for his warm and fuzzy management style.....
(Below clips are rated PG-21)

My Kinda Town......

Before Stouffers went frozen.....
they had restaurants at Randolph/Wabash (above) and at the top of the Prudential Building on the 40th floor called the Top of the Rock.
Started as a small family restaurant just south of Cleveland in the '20s......
and hit the big time in the '60's with the advent of frozen TV dinners.

Gotta love the ladies on the salt box.....
which reminds me.....
what ever happened to the salt boxes?

More fam damily......

96.6*.....in the shade.
My new digital outdoor thermometer that sticks to the outside of my kitchen window.
Another recent purchase of things I really don't need from Wal*Mart!

.....got a lake
.....got a boat house
.....but no boat.
(but I'm OK with that.....shhhhhh don't tell Mar)

The Ruddy's taking is some suds....sun and stories.
Where do all Southern Illinois Hillbillies go on a HOT Saturday afternoon??
WAL*MART......
if you can't beat 'em.....join 'em.
The BEST Corn-Shuckers this side of the Ohio River.....Clare & Katie.

OK....so you kind of had to be there.....
but imagine Peter's surprise when he went to
take a drink of his Sprite at dinner....
and all of the Sprite landed on his lap.
Reason....
He took one of my old light fixture glass shades
that I had taken down last week
(which looks like a glass tumbler)
and filled up his drink.....
but there was no bottom on this shade
and gravity did it's thing when he picked it up.
.....and we were sober!

The whole fam damily......

Ruddy's and Grandma Nancy got out of the city and headed back down south on Friday to beautiful blue skies and 96* temps.
.
The lake was like bathwater as they swam all day and night.....
the "almost" full moon kept them swimming until 10:30......
.
...........now 11pm and the house is very...very quiet.
.
All are out for the count.
.
.....goodbye city life.

We Have a Wiener!!!!

So after much debate among the TT contest review board...
Mz. Molly Flynn is this week's GRAND PRIZE WINNER with the correct answer...
Mr. Sanford Koufax....
(sorry all you "Sandy" guessers....but rules are rules!)

He was actually born Sanford Braun...
but changed his last name (after his parent's divorced) to his step-father's last name.....
sorry....but the judges gave Molly the green light!

This is one of those historic baseball names that I just never put a face to until this week.
Even though Mantle, DiMaggio, Mays, and others were before my time.....
I could always pick them out of a crowd.....but not Koufax.
  • Retired (when I was 4 years old) at age 30 due to chronic arthritis in his pitching arm.
  • Attended the University of Cincinnati on a basketball scholarship.
  • Has thrown 4 no-hitters (4 consecutive years) including one PERFECT GAME....only 20 pitchers have.
  • Appeared (with fellow player Don Drysdale) in the 1966 film "Warning Shot"
  • Had shirts tailored to have one sleeve long and one short to wear under his suits....this took the pressure off of his arthritic arm.
  • 1965....
made it to the World Series.....
was scheduled to pitch GAME 1.....
and took the day off due to that day falling on Yom Kippur....
did I mention Sanford is Jewish?

Give me a few minutes and listen to the last 3 outs of Koufax's perfect game....
called by Vince Scully......classic!!

Did I mention that he did this against the Cubbies!?!?!
...although to the Cubs' credit..they too had a no-hitter through the 7th.

We DON'T have a Wiener!!!

Yes....

the 4 Presidents pictured were.....
John Adams...
Calvin Coolidge..
James Monroe...
and
Thomas Jefferson.

What they had "in common" no one knew
(except some "2nd guessers")
July 4th.

Adams and Jefferson BOTH died on July 4th 1826
Both men wanted to live to see the Country's 50th Birthday (Cha..Cha..Cha)

Adams last words were...."Thomas Jefferson survives...."
but he was wrong because Jefferson passed a few hours earlier.

James Monroe....passed away 5 years later in 1831.

Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4th....1872.

Have a great 4th weekend.....
and a couple of black-charred hotdogs on the grill.
