Chicago boy....grew up around Roosevelt & Halsted.....graduate of the Chicago Public Grade School system, but never attended H.S.....nicknamed 'Sparky'......was an airplane mechanic in the Air Force during WWII.....was once a singing waiter in L.A......very patriotic.....worked-out a lot....a notorious fighter....lost part of his finger in a fight....never married.....considered by many to be a national hero.....died at age 55 of lung cancer.....in jail.
