We Have a Wiener.....

Big winner from the Great White North this week....
Mr. Tom Asher in with the correct answer AND SPELLING of
the one and only Rowland Hussey Macy founder of Macys.
He was born on Nantucket Island, MA

I'm not saying that retail is tough....but
He died at the age of 54....his son died a year later at 31.
His co founders both died within 2 years after Rowland.....
they were in the 20's and 30's.

Ownership was then passed through the family
for another 20 years or so before it was sold to Isidor Straus who
originally sold China pieces to Macy's.

Life was smooth sailing for Mr. Straus and he died at a ripe old age
of 67....probably would have lived longer if he didn't buy tickets for
him and his wife for a trip on the Titanic.  His wife refused to be
separated from him and gave up her lifeboat seat to her newly hired
English maid....and gave her a newly purchased fur jacket to keep her warm.

Isidor was offered a seat in another lifeboat but stated we wouldn't
cut in front of the other children, women and men in front of him.
They were last seen on the deck.....arm in arm.

White Star didn't prove to be as lucky for him as the Red Star of Macy's.
.....which by the way was from a Red Star Tattoo that R.H. Macy had on
his arm back in his whale hunting days.

Happy Black Friday.

Marty
