Waaaaaaa.....waaaaaa....waaaaa.
(for me that is!!)
Lots of odd ball guesses this week....
NO to Yogi Berra...
NO to Billy Williams...
NO to Sparky Anderson...
I threw you off with the Baseball hints...and you never made it to the gridiron.
Although the pic was taken at Wrigley....
and they had baseball hats and what looked to be baseball uniforms....
they had nothing to do with baseball.
If you looked closely you could see
the 40-yard marker drawn in on the grass.
Better luck next week....and Merry Christmas to ALL!
Big Man on Right......none other than Mr. Abe Gibron who never met food that he didn't like. He played for the Bears in '58....and was the head coach for 3 years in the early 70's! Was in the TV movie "Brian's Song"...and played himself.
Short Man in Center.....was Papa Bear George Halas. Played for the Yankees in 1919....only 12 games before suffering a hip injury that ended his baseball career.
Mr. Smiley on Left.....Gale Sayers.

How I spent my Christmas vacation.....
to find no drywall behind the shower tile I planned on replacing.
Well not entirely....
but all of it near the base of the tub had
disintegrated over the last 20 years of baths.
Which led me to thinking about all of the baths
that I had taken in that tub (0 for 20 years)
and what have I gotten myself into?
So plan "b".....
everything gets ripped out and start from the studs.
Buy buckets of mud.....glue.....grout and go!
So here we are going into Day 5.....
and I should wrap today.
Thank God for YouTube and Ehow....
(I could build a house now if I "wanted" to)
Sticking with my day job!

Fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe ......
Dec 12th is one of the biggest of all Mexican Holidays.
Huge parade through town with all of the locals marching up to and through Our Lady of Guadalupe church complete with marching bands and dancers.
Local girl dressed as Guadalupe holding the familiar pose all throughout the parade.

Still nothin' doin'............
so these days of doin' nothin' are getting to us....
so we spent Saturday taking a walk downtown along the MALECON which is their boardwalk along the ocean.....as as you can see by the picture above.....they go old school with the Christmas decorations!
The "traditional" Coca-Cola Christmas Tree.....
huge field across from the Sheraton had kids coming and going all day.
Neat Art Fair along the Malecon.....
picked up another 8x1o painting from a local artist to add to my "collection"
Sand scupltors working along the beach....this Lady of Guadalupe was pretty impressive.
In person....really looks like a statue....
This "piece" is actually a local performer....covered with sand....and frozen.
Everything from his surfboard to his eyelids were covered with sand.
If you didn't take a double look....you would walk right by.
When I stopped to take his pic.....others then stopped.
I think I found a new gig after retirement......
but I would have to be sitting down.
Poinsettias everywhere.....although they have nothing on Richie's flower boxes.
Never gets old.....
.
Found a bar that will have the Bears game on .......
Far.....far..... away from the "frozen tundra"!!

Nothing doin'.........
Found a shady spot and read books all day.....
another sunny day in paradise.
I'm finally finishing a book on Phil Spector that I started last year.
Pretty captivating.....
he produced, wrote, co-wrote or played on more songs than the Beatles.
Bizarre side stories.....should be a movie someday.
Christmas trees and shorts don't go together.....
When the sun sets here.....everyone, including the staff.................. just stops and watches.
Man......I got a big head.
Going....going....gone until manana.

All is well here....NOBODY HERE....which is perfect for me....slow season before Christmas.
Weather is fine.....such a shock in going from teens to the low 80's.
Just sat by the ocean yesterday and stared...(and drank of course!)
More performers at the Fiesta last night than there were attendees.
We slept in and are off to breakfast.....
Mandatory vacation sunset picture for those of you who may not see the sun for awhile!

Album of the Year......
My mom got me this "Ray Charles-Unreleased Masters" cd for my birthday....
and keep in mind that the last album that my mom bought me was...
"The Partridge Family-Up to Date" album in 1971
from Community Discount in Oak Lawn....
so this was really a step up from Shirley and the gang.
Whether you are a Ray Charles fan or not....
this really is a classic.
Songs that he had in a vault that were unreleased until this year.
I have driven a lot of miles over the last 2 weeks....
and this has been in the cd player every day.

We Have a Wiener!!!
Chuckles pulls it out!
Thanks for your Ringo....Fleegle (from the Banana Splits) and Neil Diamond guesses....
but Mr. Pollard had the correct answer at the 12th hour!!
Peter Halsten Thorkelson...aka Peter Tork from the Monkees.
Neil Diamond was close....
because the "b" side to "(I'm not your) Steppin' Stone" was
"I'm a Believer" which was written by Neil....but no cigar!
Why Mr. Tork was in the Batmobile and not in the Monkeemobile....
is not known.
But what is known is....
--Peter was my least favorite Monkee...
--I had a Monkee lunch box....
--I have Mickey's autograph...
(my Mom & Dad saw him in a play at Pheasant Run in 1969)
--The Monkeemobile Kit Car was the first hobby car I ever assembled....
--There were actually 2 Monkeemobiles..
one of them was restored and recently sold to a MI collector for $360,000.
......why is Davey's bass guitar plugged into the bass drum?
