We Have a Weiner!!
Mz. Maggie Pollard was in just ahead of continuing winner Tim McNally
and put an end to his nonsense by guessing
Creedence Clearwater Revival......nice!
Thanks for all the Beach Boys guesses......
but you can't just pencil whip TT.....
do your homework people.
The name....
CREEDENCE--was from the first name of a friend of Tom Fogerty's...
with an extra "e" thrown in.
CLEARWATER--came from an Olympia Beer commercial!
For all you youngsters out there.....good cheap beer back in the day.
CCR sounds better than
Creedence Artesian Revival anyways.
REVIVAL--came from the dedication of "getting the band back together"
after several members returned back from military duty.
John and Tom Fogerty were brothers.
Tom died from AIDS in 1990 at age 48.....
contracted from blood transfusions for back ailments.
All members grew up together.....
but a bitter breakup means probably no reunion.
Never had a #1 hit.....but a TON of others..
Youngsters...
Give this a listen.....they never get old

OK......first TWOFER in awhile.
Mr. Rocker on the left needs no introduction......a freebie this week.
Mr. Rocker on the right might be a little tougher.

--Played a lot of his early shows in strip clubs.

We Have a Weiner!!
Well if only Mr. Tim McNally had all of this luck at the track last week.....
He was the first in AGAIN this week with the one and only....
Mr.Louis Eugene Wolcott aka Louis Farrakhan.
"The Charmer" dropped his studies to be a nightclub singer....
but then had to drop his singing and playing to become a member
of the Nation of Islam.
Love him or hate him.....
you gotta love his rambling against Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes.
Not too many people could keep Mike down.

The Party is Over.....
So after a long weekend here at the Derby....
Here are some leftover pics from a great weekend.
165,307 attendance on Saturday alone was a new record.....too crazy.
I overheard an old-timer at the betting window today say....
"You know you had a good Derby weekend.....
if you wake up on Sunday morning......."
.....and then he walked away.
I was waiting for the punchline....
but I think that waking up on Sunday morning was the punchline.
Mr. Calvin Borel....
who lost me more money this weekend than my '68 Nova.....
may have had a horse with a broken ankle in "Take Charge Indy" on Derby Day.
X-rays are set for Monday......sorry for the bad tip.
Tim celebrating his $2.80 winnings...
FRONT ROW!!!!!
Leaving on Derby Saturday.....
I started coming here in 1982 with "Gato del Sol"....
I have invested in and have seen most of these over the last 30 years.
So much for "playing names".....
Mr. LUCKIE CHUCKIE was not so "fuckie lucky" Chuckie Pollard.
(say that 10 times fast!!)
Token annual postcard shot....
I now have my own bookie at the Outlook Inn in Luhville.....
best bar in Luhville.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/outlook-inn-louisville
Only in Luhville.....
Railbird Tim looking REALLY close for a winner.

Happy Cinco de Derbyo....
Wow....
The Derby on Cinco de Mayo...and also the same day as the "Super Moon"!!
I think the Mayans got it all wrong and are off by about 6 months or so.
The world might end today.....
so I'm going for broke!
So Day 2 of Luhville is always the "educational" part of our trip.
Which allows our bodies to filter the alcohol from Day 1 and save us some money from going back to the track for the Oaks Race.
So.....
off we go to the Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville which is about 160+ years old.
Lots of Civil War veterans are buried here....
part of this is a National Cemetery.
We found the Colonel....
ironically you can smell chicken from the KFC that is only a few blocks away.
Really incredible architecture for the day....
lots of mausoleums built into sides off hills which make it look like little "cottages" next-door to each other.
I found this one interesting.....
incredible to think that most of these headstones have stood up to the elements for all of these years.
It is right in the middle of Louisville on 300+ acres.....really a sight to be seen.
Opened in 1848 and inters close to 130,000 people with only space for an additional 10,000.
Sadly.....most of these people have never been to a Derby!!

We've Got an Exacta.....
This is a TT first....
A picture of both the TT winner
and the TT answer in the same shot!!
Yes.....
Mr. Tim McNally was the first and only one in this week
with Mr. Patrick Alan "Pat" Day....
my favorite jockey.
Thanks for all of the Willie Shoemaker and Rick Pitino's "dad" guesses....
try again next week.
Mr. Day once was in the money in every race one year here except for the Derby Race.
We all did well that day and ended up bumping into him in the parking lot.
Couldn't have been nicer.
He also won 8 out of 9 races at Arlington in one day.
